History of Hypnotherapy
“The beauty of history lies not in the grand moments alone, but in the quiet truths and lessons it gently whispers across time, reminding us of the enduring power of our collective journey”
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a gentle yet powerful way to help you make positive changes in your life. It combines the principles of hypnotherapy, which uses guided relaxation and focused attention to access your subconscious mind, with a solution-focused approach that emphasises your strengths and goals. During sessions, you’ll be guided into a relaxed state, allowing your mind to become more receptive to new ways of thinking and feeling. Instead of dwelling on problems or past difficulties, this therapy is all about identifying your desired outcomes and building on your existing resources to achieve them. It’s a collaborative and empowering process designed to help you move forward with confidence and clarity.
Hypnotherapy as a healing practice has a rich history that dates back to ancient cultures, where trance-like states were used for healing and spiritual purposes. In more recent times, it evolved through the work of notable figures like Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung, who explored the depths of the subconscious mind in their approaches. Jean Piaget contributed to our understanding of how the mind develops and processes information, which has also influenced therapeutic techniques. Modern hypnotherapy further developed throughout the 20th century, gaining increased recognition for its effectiveness. The practice continued to grow and refine through pioneering work by individuals like David Newton, who is credited with founding Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. Today, this approach is a trusted, evidence-based method used globally to help people manage issues such as stress, anxiety, habits, and phobias, all within a warm, supportive environment designed to guide clients toward positive change.
I had the wonderful opportunity to study at The Clifton Practice, a renowned centre for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy founded by David Newton. This training allowed me to immerse myself in a proven, evidence-based approach that has helped many people achieve positive change. One notable example of its effectiveness is a peer-reviewed study conducted with police officers in Northumbria, which demonstrated high success rates 94% of participants reported significant improvements in their well-being and stress levels. The study highlighted how SFH can be a powerful tool in managing mental health and enhancing resilience. Excitingly, more research into the effectiveness of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is expected to be published in autumn 2025, which will further solidify its role as a trusted and scientifically supported method for personal transformation.
Further to these studies, I have also personally engaged in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and have seen its remarkable success first-hand. I am fortunate to have worked with a diverse range of clients, each of whom I consider an honour to work with. There is nothing more humbling than witnessing someone move from a place of darkness to a state of peace and happiness. This therapy brings me the same deep gratitude I feel from my work in paediatric nursing, which is perhaps why I am so passionate about it. Being a part of my clients’ healing journeys is truly a rewarding experience that continually inspires and fulfils me.
